Bad Breath Be Caused By Your Period?

Bad breath affects 1 in 4 people. Are you that ONE in 4 person affected by it? Well, if you’re not too sure, here’s a simple trick for you to find out:

Poor oral hygiene

Food that is not digested and stuck in the mouth will be broken down by bacteria which produce sulphur compounds. If left in the mouth for an extended period of time, this can cause bad breath. Not only that,  bacteria will be absorbed into your body. When you are having your period, you will start smelling.

Bad Breath and Period

During period, your body experiences a lot of hormonal changes in order to cope with the changes your body is going through. One of the hormones that cause some alterations to your gums and other mouth tissues, making your mouth a more conducive environment for these foul-smelling bacteria.

This causes dry mouth which leads to bad breath.

Another explanation is that when there’s a dip in your estrogen level, there is a reduction in your mouth’s saliva production. As a result, this can cause dry mouth which prevents bacteria and dead cells to be removed
